The College of Science at Kerbala University has concluded a course organized at the college on the impact of heavy metals on human, animal and plant health. This is was for the academic staff and graduate students in the Department of Biology Sciences.
The course aimed to identify the pros and cons of the impact of minerals on the environment. The session has recommended the need to identify the impact of heavy metals on human, animal and plant health, as they cause serious health diseases. As well as their impact on the genetic material in plants, and their toxicity varies according to different types of plants.
Molecular indicators have also helped to detect genetic changes at the DNA level, In contrast to the costly and long-term traditional methods. It also revealed changes in DNA caused by metals such as lead, cadmium and copper.
The Dean of the College said that the university always seeks to improve its scientific output.
