The College of Science at the University of Karbala organized a scientific seminar on the possibility of sighting the crescent moon for the blessed month of Ramadan in the year 1445 Hijri.
The seminar aimed to elucidate some of the physical properties of the moon, its movement, the orbit shape around the Earth, and the distinction between the astronomical and conjunction months.
The seminar included explaining the coordinates of the crescent on the day of its birth and the observation day to assess the visibility from the horizon of the holy city of Karbala. Additionally, it clarified the visibility possibility for other countries on a world map.
The seminar concluded that it is expected that Tuesday, March 12, 2024, will be the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan for this year.
