The College of Science at the University of Karbala organized a training course titled “Diseases Transmitted by Parasitic Worms Found in Amphibians.” The four-day course was conducted by Dr. Khansa Abdul Aali, Dr. Sarah Kazim Ibrahim, Damya Ibrahim Alwan, and Maida Ayad Khalef, with the aim of shedding light on and familiarizing students with diseases transmitted to humans and animals by parasitic worms whose primary or secondary hosts are amphibians, elucidating their modes of spread.
The course clarified the health risks posed by these amphibians in transmitting parasitic stages to secondary hosts, including fish, invertebrates, plants, and ultimately to humans, thereby elucidating the sources of infection. Finally, the course emphasized the importance of combating these hosts (amphibians) to break the life cycle of these parasites and, consequently, eradicate these diseases, considering amphibians as biological vectors for the immature stages of parasitic worms.
