Dr. Hassan Jameel Jawad, the Dean of the College of Science at the University of Karbala, participated in the discussion of a master’s thesis in the Department of Environment and Pollution at the College of Science at the University of Kufa under the title “Study of the Toxic Effects of Some Petroleum Derivatives on Some Physiological Parameters in Male Rats.”
The thesis, presented by the researcher Aya Ammar Kazem, aimed to evaluate the toxic effects of inhaling kerosene and naphtha vapors on some blood parameters, antioxidant enzymes, liver, kidney, and lung functions in rats.
The results of the study showed a significant increase in the total count of white blood cells, red blood cells, liver enzymes, creatinine, and urea, as well as physiological changes in lung tissues in rats exposed to kerosene and naphtha vapors for different periods.
The study recommended the necessity of wearing personal protective equipment by workers in oil refineries exposed to inhaling petroleum derivatives to protect their health from kerosene and naphtha vapors, as well as conducting routine medical examinations to aid in the early detection of diseases.
