The College of Science at the University of Karbala, under the supervision of the Dean, Professor Dr. Hassan Jameel Jawad, and organized by the Head of the Women’s Affairs Unit, Professor Dr. Iman Talib Kareem, in collaboration with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, represented by Assistant Professor Dr. Zina Thamer Abdul Hussein, conducted an awareness and guidance campaign against domestic violence.
The campaign aimed to define the meaning of domestic violence, its types, causes, and ways to confront and resist it. Additionally, the campaign included the preparation of a paper-based survey on the topic of domestic violence, which was distributed to the attendees.
The results showed that a large percentage of the survey participants had not experienced domestic violence, while a smaller percentage indicated that they had. The findings revealed that the primary reason for victims not seeking help was fear of society and traditional customs.
These awareness campaigns against domestic violence align with the directives of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, emphasizing the necessity of conducting surveys on students experiencing domestic violence, in coordination between the Women’s Affairs Unit and the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit.
