University of Karbala Establishes Medical Physics Branch in the College of Science

In an effort by the College of Science to supply the community with scientific specializations aligned with labor market needs and in recognition of the college’s commitment to addressing specific desirable specializations, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has approved the establishment of the Medical Physics branch in the College of Science at the University of Karbala for the academic year 2024-2025. This approval followed the ministry committee’s visit to the college to verify that all necessary conditions and equipment for establishing the branch were met.

This achievement responds to the increasing demand for qualified personnel in this vital field. Medical physics plays a pivotal role in diagnosing and treating many diseases, such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases. It also contributes to the development of modern medical imaging techniques, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT). This new branch is expected to enhance healthcare in Iraq and provide qualified national cadres capable of competing in the regional and international labor markets.
