During a press conference, His Excellency, Head of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Abd Yaser Al-Aboudi announced that Thi-Qar Governorate is free of radioactive contamination.

Dr. Al-Aboudi reviewed that the specialized national teams in the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission treated exceptional effort the contaminated military waste, which amounted to approximately two hundred tons of contaminated iron pieces and materials within a record time of thirty-four days.

His Excellency said that the supervisory teams from the National Authority for Nuclear, Radiological and Chemical Control conducted the necessary surveys that proved that Thi-Qar Governorate is free of radioactive waste.

Dr. Al-Aboudi added that the experts of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission are continuing the procedures to purify a number of other provinces and that the final announcement of Iraq being completely free of radioactive contamination will be coming soon.
