Higher Education: One Hundred & Twenty-Six Iraqi Universities & Colleges in Webometrics Ranking

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced that one hundred and twenty-six Iraqi universities and colleges obtained competitive scores in the Webometrics global ranking in its second edition for 2024.

Higher Education highlighted that the results of the ranking (www.webometrics.info/en/Asia/Iraq) reviewed that thirty thousand university institutions around the world compete according to indicators that measure the virtual presence of universities through their locations, indicating the percentage of clarity by (50%), transparency by (10%) and strength and excellence of research by (40%).

Higher Education reviewed that the current edition witnessed an increase in the Iraqi universities index compared to the previous edition, as the University of Baghdad obtained the top of one hundred and twenty-six universities, the Universities of Diyala, Mustansiriyah, Mosul, Kufa, Anbar, Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, Al-Qadisiyah, and other Iraqi universities indicated by the official website of the ranking affiliated with the Supreme Center for Scientific Research in Spain.

It is worth be mentioned that Iraq obtained the first in the Arab world and seventh in the world in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2024 in terms of the number of universities participating in the 2024 edition, while Iraqi universities and colleges achieved increasing in the competition in other global rankings, such as Shanghai Ranking of subjects ( Global Ranking of Academic Subjects for 2023, in which the University of Baghdad obtained top score within the specialty (Dentistry & Oral Sciences), (QS) Ranking, whose version for 2025 witnesses the presence of five Iraqi universities, the (Scimago) Ranking, in which there are forty-seven institutions, and the (Greenmetric) Ranking, which increased the number of Iraqi educational institutions reaches seventy-four universities and colleges and the RUR Ranking contains forty-five Iraqi universities.
