A master’s thesis at the College of Science, University of Karbala, focused on the synthesis and characterization of new compounds through a kinetic study of enzyme-catalyzed Diels-Alder reactions. The study, presented by student Zainab Adel Jasim from the Department of Chemistry, aimed to use an environmentally friendly method to catalyze chemical reactions for the synthesis of new compounds and to study the kinetics of the enzyme used in the reaction.
The research involved the synthesis of six compounds via the Diels-Alder reaction using the MaDA enzyme, in addition to monitoring the enzyme kinetics.
The study concluded that the enzyme had a significant effect on the selectivity of the resulting compounds and found that the substituent groups of the reactants influenced the reaction conditions.
