Under the direct supervision of Prof. Dr. Hassan Jamil Jawad Al-Fatlawi, Dean of the College of Science, the Women’s Affairs Unit at the college organized an awareness campaign titled “October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”
The campaign included the distribution of roses and informational brochures to all female staff and students. These brochures provided advice to reduce the risk of breast cancer, including recommendations to avoid obesity, maintain a healthy diet, engage in physical activity, and emphasized the importance of early detection as the best measure for health preservation. Early breast cancer detection increases the recovery rate to 98%, and the campaign organizers called on all women to undergo this screening as it is not merely a medical procedure but a message of self-care and hope for a healthier future.
Additionally, informational brochures were distributed from the Breast Cancer Center at Al-Sayyida Khadija Al-Kubra Hospital, which offers free screening services, including ultrasound and mammography, funded by the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain throughout October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
It is noteworthy that the Women’s Affairs Department of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in line with Iraq’s National Women’s Strategic Plan, has encouraged the organization of awareness campaigns on early cancer screenings related to women’s and family health.
