The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Science, University of Kerbala, organized a seminar titled “The Impact of Nutrition on Spiritual and Psychological Outcomes.”
The seminar was presented by Mr. Muhammad Al-Mousawi from the Religious Guidance Department of the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine. It aimed to highlight the strong connection between nutrition, human behavior, and ethics.
It was explained that nutrition greatly impacts the human body and physical health. However, Islamic teachings affirm that food also influences the soul, morals, and behavior, as stated in the Quran: “O messengers, eat from the good things and act righteously.”
Some interpreters believe that the mention of these two aspects together—eating good things and acting righteously—is clear evidence of the strong link between them. This suggests that wholesome food positively affects the soul, ethics, and behavior, unlike harmful food, which has negative effects.
Nevertheless, it was emphasized that food and nutrition cannot be considered the sole determinants of moral development. Instead, they serve as contributing factors, influenced by their permissibility (halal or haram) and type.
