The seminar, presented by Assistant Lecturer Forsan Abdullah Abdul Ali (Master’s in Public Law), aimed to explain and interpret the Iraqi Labor Law and Social Security system, which are fundamental pillars for achieving social justice and regulating the relationship between workers and employers. The law seeks to ensure workers’ rights, promote a safe and equitable work environment, and provide social protection through comprehensive social security systems.
The seminar discussed key provisions of the law, including the regulation of working hours and leaves, protection of workers’ rights, labor contracts, and specific regulations concerning child and women labor. Additionally, it addressed social security as a cornerstone of worker protection in Iraq, offering coverage such as workplace accident insurance, retirement and pensions, and health insurance, which ensures comprehensive healthcare for workers and their families.
The seminar concluded with recommendations emphasizing the necessity of adhering to the Iraqi Labor Law and Social Security system. Despite challenges in its full implementation, strengthening compliance with the law and pursuing continuous improvements can contribute to creating a fairer and more sustainable labor market in Iraq.
