The College of Science at the University of Karbala organized a training course at the College of Education for Humanities titled “Indexing Standards for Scientific Journals in Global Databases.”
The course was presented by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mahmoud Abdul Latif, Editor-in-Chief of the Karbala International Journal of Modern Science and a faculty member at the College of Science. It was attended by members of the editorial board of Al-Baheth Journal, faculty members, and students from the College of Education for Humanities. The course aimed to introduce the essential standards and criteria that editorial boards of scientific journals must meet to ensure their inclusion and indexing in global databases such as Scopus and Clarivate.
The course covered three main topics:
1. Scopus Indexing Standards:
This session reviewed Iraqi journals indexed in Scopus, highlighting the requirements and criteria these journals met to achieve their inclusion in this database.
2. Clarivate Indexing Requirements:
The discussion focused on the 28 criteria established by Clarivate experts for indexing scientific journals in its database.
3. Specifications for Publishing in Reputable Journals:
This segment addressed the standards researchers should follow to prepare their work in a manner that ensures acceptance in journals indexed in global databases. Key elements included originality, innovation, precision, scientific integrity, objectivity, adherence to ethical publishing standards, and writing the research with proper language and format.
The course provided valuable insights for researchers and journal editors, emphasizing the importance of aligning with international standards to enhance the visibility and impact of academic publications.
