The Department of Physics at the College of Science, University of Karbala, organized a workshop titled “Introduction to International Measurement Systems.”
The workshop, presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Hawraa Mohammed Abbas, aimed to introduce participants to global measurement systems and methods of conversion between them. It highlighted the purpose of using standardized measurement systems and reviewed historical measurement systems from ancient civilizations such as Babylonian, Egyptian, and Chinese systems, leading up to modern systems like the British system and the International System of Units (SI).
The workshop also explained the basic and derived units in the SI system and the origins of each unit. It concluded by discussing conversion methods between different systems and providing an introduction to decimal prefixes.
