College of Science Organizes Training Course on the Impact of Sunlight on Bottled Water and Canned Foods

The College of Science at the University of Kerbala organized an in-person training course titled “The Impact of Sunlight on Bottled Mineral Water and Canned Foods.”

The course aimed to analyze the health and environmental risks associated with exposing such products to sunlight. Key topics included: the effect of ultraviolet rays on plastic and metal packaging materials, potential chemical hazards due to interactions between sunlight and preservatives—such as the release of toxic compounds like BPA—alongside the environmental impact of non-degradable damaged containers, recommendations for safe storage practices, and the importance of using UV-resistant packaging materials.

The course also reviewed recent scientific studies and field experiments, offering practical advice for consumers, companies, and professionals in food safety. It concluded with an emphasis on the importance of adhering to international standards in manufacturing and storage, and on increasing public awareness about the dangers of prolonged sun exposure. This course proved to be of significant scientific and practical value to researchers and professionals in the field.

The course was delivered by:
