The Department of Chemistry at the College of Science, University of Karbala, organized a scientific seminar titled “The Importance of the Diels-Alder Reaction in Natural Product Synthesis”, presented by Prof. Dr. Zaid Hassan Aboud.
The seminar aimed to highlight the pivotal role of the Nobel Prize-winning Diels-Alder reaction in facilitating the synthesis of natural compounds of medical and pharmaceutical significance.
The presentation covered a range of natural products that can be synthesized efficiently using this reaction, such as nitrogenous bases like morphine, terpenes, and cyanocyclines—compounds that are otherwise difficult to synthesize through conventional methods. This underscores the great value of the Diels-Alder reaction in the field of organic chemistry and drug development.
