The Razzaza and Western Euphrates Research Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Biology at the College of Science, University of Kerbala, held a celebration marking World Environment Day (June 5) and World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought (June 17), both recognized by the United Nations.
The event aimed to emphasize the importance of environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and the need to combat desertification and drought, while also promoting environmental awareness within the community.
The celebration program included a speech by Dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Hassan Jameel Jawad Al-Fatlawi, followed by remarks from Dr. Sanad Shamil, Director of the Razzaza and Western Euphrates Research Unit. The event also featured a scientific lecture on environmental pollution delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Oras Mousa.
Educational and awareness brochures related to the two occasions were distributed to attendees during the event.
The celebration witnessed broad participation from the college’s faculty and administration, who praised the event and emphasized the importance of continuing such initiatives to strengthen environmental awareness and support sustainable development, especially in light of the environmental challenges facing our beloved country.
