University of Kerbala Introduces Microbiology Division at College of Science

In an effort to strengthen its contribution to society through scientific disciplines aligned with labor market needs, and in recognition of the demand for specialized fields, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has approved the establishment of a Microbiology Division within the Department of Biological Sciences at the Faculty of Science, University of Kerbala, starting from the academic year 2025–2026.
This decision followed an official visit by a ministerial committee, which confirmed the fulfillment of all required conditions and the availability of necessary infrastructure for launching the new division.

The initiative comes in response to the growing demand for qualified professionals in this vital field. Microbiology plays a central role in diagnosing and treating infectious diseases, identifying their causes, and contributes significantly to pharmaceutical industries and clinical diagnostic laboratories. It also holds importance in environmental and food-related sectors.

The new division is expected to enhance the level of scientific research and healthcare services in Iraq, while preparing highly skilled national professionals capable of competing in both regional and international labor markets.
