University of Karbala Organizes an Awareness Lecture on Periodic Screening for Cancer Diseases

The Women’s Affairs Unit at the Faculty of Science, University of Kerbala, organized an awareness lecture titled “Pink October… Awareness Protects Life,” delivered by:
• Prof. Dr. Nargis Hadi Mansour
• Asst. Prof. Dr. Hawraa Mohammed Abbas

The lecture aimed to highlight the significance of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to encourage early detection, which plays a crucial role in saving lives.

The speakers emphasized that awareness is the first line of defense, as early diagnosis significantly increases recovery rates. The session also addressed risk factors, the key warning signs that require medical examination, and underscored the importance of self-examination and regular screening, as well as the role of family and community support in empowering women to care for their health without fear or hesitation.

The lecture concluded with a humanitarian message that “Awareness is life,” emphasizing that spreading knowledge and encouraging screening are shared responsibilities toward building a healthy and safe society.

During the event, an informational brochure on breast cancer was distributed under the slogan:
“Examine for reassurance… A small step can save a life.”

This lecture was held as part of the Third National Plan for Women, Peace, and Security, under the ‘Protection and Prevention’ pillar, for October 2025, organized by the Women’s Affairs Unit, faculty of Science – University of Kerbala.
