The Department of Physics at the College of Science, University of Kerbala, organized a training course titled “Types of Telescopes.”
The course aimed to introduce the main types of optical telescopes, which are classified into three principal categories: refracting telescopes (Refractors), which depend on lenses to focus light; reflecting telescopes (Reflectors), which use mirrors to collect light; and catadioptric telescopes, such as the Cassegrain telescope, which combine lenses and mirrors to produce clear and compact images. All of these telescopes are used to magnify celestial bodies or very distant objects.
The course concluded by highlighting the primary function of telescopes, which is to collect light and magnify extremely distant objects, allowing them to be seen with greater clarity and accuracy than with the naked eye.
The course was delivered by:
Assist. Prof. Dr. Azhar Abdul-Zahra Raheem
Assist. Prof. Dr. Bashar Alaa Mohammed
