The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Science organized a seminar entitled “The Impact of Climate Change in Iraq: Women’s Responsibility in Reducing Pollution and Managing Detergents and Waste,” in cooperation with the Department of Chemistry. The seminar was held as part of Axis Five of the Executive Plan of the Iraqi National Strategy for Women (2026) during February 2026.

The seminar highlighted the issue of climate change in Iraq and its environmental, health, and economic implications, particularly those related to rising temperatures, water scarcity, and increasing levels of pollution. It also emphasized the responsibility of women as key partners in addressing these challenges through their educational and practical roles within the family and the wider community.

The seminar discussions addressed effective methods for the responsible management of household detergents and chemical products, the importance of reducing harmful usage, and the adoption of environmentally friendly alternatives. It also emphasized the significance of waste segregation, recycling, and safe disposal practices. The recommendations stressed that empowering women environmentally and intellectually can play a vital role in reducing pollution and promoting sustainable behaviors, thereby supporting national efforts to address climate change in Iraq.
