Study at the University of Karbala Discusses Functional Evaluation of Adipokines

A master’s thesis at the College of Science, University of Karbala, presented by Tiba Haider Abdul Amir, examined the functional evaluation of adipokines and the role of MicroRNA-590 in obese women related to thyroid disorders.

The study aimed to analyze physiological, biochemical, and hormonal changes and their relationship with miRNA-590 in women diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

Findings indicated that decreased thyroid hormones lead to increased levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, alongside higher adipokine hormone levels and significant alterations in miRNA-590 gene expression, suggesting its potential role in thyroid dysfunction.

The study recommended:

Expanding the sample size for a more comprehensive analysis.
Monitoring disease progression over time.
Identifying genetic variations associated with thyroid disorders.
Investigating the molecular pathways influenced by miRNA-590 to better understand its role in thyroid regulation.
