Physics Department at the College of Science, University of Kerbala, organized a scientific symposium titled “The Possibility of Sightings the Crescent Moon of Ramadan 1446 AH in the Holy City of Kerbala”
During the symposium, Assistant Lecturer Haider Reda Ali presented an overview of some of the physical characteristics of the moon. He explained the reasons behind the varying appearances of the moon from Earth’s surface each night and discussed the factors necessary for the visibility of the crescent moon to the naked eye.
He also detailed the specifications of the crescent moon on the day of its birth, which is expected to occur on Friday, February 28, 2025, at sunset in the Holy City of Kerbala. This was accompanied by a global map illustrating the visibility of the crescent moon in different cities around the world. Given the unlikelihood of sighting the crescent on the day of its birth, the discussion shifted to the characteristics of the crescent on the following day, Saturday, March 1, 2025, which marks the completion of the month of Sha’ban.
Ali stated that the crescent moon would be clearly visible above the horizon of the Holy City of Kerbala due to its favorable conditions on the 30th of Sha’ban. He predicted that Sunday, March 2, 2025, would likely be the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan for that year, God willing. He concluded by praying that the Almighty would bring goodness and blessings to all.
