The Biology Department at the College of Science, University of Kerbala, organized a scientific training course titled:
“Extraction and Detection of Bioactive Compounds Using the Soxhlet Apparatus, TLC Technique, and Evaluation of Their Biological Activity”
The course aimed to enhance participants’ skills in extracting bioactive compounds using the Soxhlet apparatus, introduce them to Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) techniques, and assess the biological effectiveness of the extracted compounds against various living organisms.
The course included:
– A practical demonstration of the Soxhlet apparatus and its mechanism of operation.
– Application of the TLC technique for compound identification.
– Bioassays to test the activity of the extracts.
This training was conducted as part of the program accreditation requirements—Standard 2, clause (2.1.7)—which emphasizes the importance of mastering modern techniques and skills in the field of specialization.
The course was delivered by:
– Assist. Prof. Dr. Sarah Kadhem Ibrahim
– Assist. Prof. Dr. Maysaa Taqi Abdul-Hassan
– Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ne’ma Issa
– Lect. Dr. Suad Turki
– Lecturer Rana Abdul-Hamzah Abdul-Zahra
