The Department of Chemistry at the College of Science organized a training course entitled: “Chemical Safety and Security Methods for the Storage and Preparation of Acidic and Basic Solutions.” The course aimed to enhance awareness of fundamental chemical safety principles and to improve the competence of staff and students in the safe handling of chemicals within laboratory environments.
The course comprised three main modules. The first addressed the properties and classification of chemical substances, along with an understanding of their associated hazards, thereby enabling participants to identify the nature of acidic and basic materials and handle them appropriately. The second module focused on the practical aspects of safely preparing and storing acidic and basic solutions, with an emphasis on proper laboratory procedures. The third module was dedicated to risk management mechanisms and emergency response strategies to ensure a safe laboratory working environment.
The course emphasized the critical importance of adhering to chemical safety and security protocols, given their essential role in minimizing risks and safeguarding both personnel and laboratory facilities.
The course was delivered by:
-Assistant Lecturer Dr. Suad Turki Abdul Abbas
-Assistant Lecturer Israa Ali Hussein
-Chief Chemist Samar Hassan Al-Hassnawi
