The Department of Chemistry at the college of Science, University of Kerbala, organized a specialized training course entitled “The Use of Ultraviolet–Visible (UV-Vis) Spectroscopy in the Identification of Organic Compounds,” with the participation of a number of specialists and researchers in the field of chemistry.
The course addressed the energy boundaries of electromagnetic radiation within the ultraviolet and visible regions, highlighting the types of electronic transitions occurring in valence electrons and their role in determining absorption characteristics and identifying functional groups in organic compounds.
Furthermore, the course aimed to demonstrate the significance of UV-Visible spectroscopy in studying the structural features of organic compounds. This includes the detection of conjugated systems, unsaturated chromophores, as well as the identification of carbon–halogen bonds within molecular structures.
The course witnessed notable engagement from participants, emphasizing the importance of such modern analytical techniques in advancing laboratory practices and enhancing the accuracy of chemical analysis.
The course was delivered by:
-Prof. Dr. Zaid Hassan Aboud
-Prof. Dr. Rahman Taama Hayoul
-Asst. Prof. Dr. Haider Rahim Ali
-Lecturer Hussein Mubarak Mohsen
-Chemist Jalal Jameel Jahel
-Chemist Ali Rahim Abbas
