The College of Science was established at the University of Karbala in 2001 within the effort of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to pay attention to the scientific sector and increase its research institutions to be able to keep pace with the rapid development taking place today in various aspects of life and also in order to absorb the increase in the population of the governorate and the nearby areas through education Scientific cadres, training and qualification of them to be able to provide educational and scientific services for their regions in particular and for the country in general. The college includes four academic departments: chemistry, physics, life sciences and computer sciences. The duration of the study is four years. The graduate is granted a bachelor’s degree in pure science majors. The college also awards a master’s degree in a specialization: physics, chemistry and life sciences.
The college aims to prepare qualified graduates in the pure sciences to work in the various sectors of the state and the private sector as well. The first batches of the college were graduated from students in 2005 – 2006 and were students of the departments (Life Sciences and Chemistry Sciences) to continue in the following years students graduated from the college departments The scientist are armed with the sciences they obtained in their four academic years, as 2385 students from various scientific departments graduated from the college, in addition to their interest in postgraduate studies. The number of students who obtained a master’s degree reached (73) students.
On the other hand, the college encourages scientific research and works to solve environmental problems, develop solutions to these problems and provide services to society. Perhaps (Razazah Research Unit and West Euphrates) is one of the advanced scientific facilities established in 2004 and the goal of this unit is to provide scientific research and technical advice For state institutions and other community facilities at a high scientific level as well as conferences of a specialized nature in which (5) conferences were held, and student conferences held (4) conferences, and do not forget about seminars and courses, including Cisco courses, environmental safety, chemical security and read Radiological and human development.
There are a number of scientific laboratories equipped with the latest scientific devices, and there are also specialized laboratories for postgraduate students. In addition, the college provides scientific and academic consultations and finds an appropriate solution to the problems faced by various state institutions and private sector institutions through its advisory office.
The college organizes training courses, seminars, and lectures aimed at raising the level of scientific and technical skills among college and university employees on the one hand and those interested in science and technology on the other.
The college has a division for quality assurance and performance evaluation that seeks to deliver the college to local and international accreditation through accreditation of comprehensive quality programs.
And within the faculty’s interests is the website, and it is supplied with many electronic courses, and it is serious in expanding e-learning and encouraging this aspect.
The College of Science in its scientific policy adopted by it considers that the basis of the renaissance of countries and their progress, especially our country, Iraq is based on scientific and technological progress, and in order to contribute to achieving this, the college seeks to develop curricula and use modern educational and educational methods and keep pace with scientific and technological development and provide appropriate infrastructure Therefore, in addition to developing the teaching, technical and administrative cadres, as well as developing students’ capabilities.
At the same time, it is interested in cooperating with the corresponding colleges, state institutions and private sector institutions, all of this in order to contribute to the country’s progress, the development of society, and the access to the ranks of the world’s sober colleges.
