This came after meeting all the requirements by the Deanship of the College and professors of the department.<\/p>\n
The Dean of the College of Science, Dr. Jasim Hanoun Hashim, stated that this step is an addition to the many accomplishments of the college. He also added that it will provide higher education institutions in our university and other universities with PhD holding staffs.<\/p>\n
The head of the biology department, Dr. Khalid Ali Hussein, stated that the department was established in 2001.\u00a0 Since then, it has expanded in the number of its students, staff and laboratories. \u00a0The department has also sought to open postgraduate studies beginning with the higher diploma and then the masters. The number of students admitted to the postgraduate studies has increased, in addition to the increase in the number of students admitted to the undergraduate studies (morning and evening).<\/p>\n
He added that the department currently embraces about 45 students in postgraduate studies (masters) in the research phase and the preparatory year. The postgraduate studies in the department were distinguished by following a solid scientific approach in setting research plans and providing students with all that is new in the fields of microbiology, ecology, zoology and botany. The department also seeks to transfer this scientific research to the field of application and research cooperation with the institutions of the ministries of health and agriculture for the benefit of the Karbala governorate and the whole country in the current time.<\/p>\n
